API keys let scripts, CI/CD pipelines and other tools call the UptimeIO API. Create and manage them in the dashboard. To learn how to send requests with a key, see Authentication.

Create an API key

1

Open the API Keys tab

Click Settings in the sidebar, then select the API Keys tab.
2

Create the key

Click Create API Key. Enter a Name that describes its purpose, such as CI/CD Pipeline or Terraform.
3

Choose the permissions

Select Permissions:Start with Read Only unless the tool needs to make changes.
4

Copy the key

Click Copy API Key and store it in your secret manager.
You can see the full key only once. It cannot be retrieved later. If you lose it, rotate it or create a new key.

Rotate or delete a key

Each key in the list shows its name, a preview of the key and its permissions.

Who can manage keys

Only owners and admins can create, rotate and delete API keys. Other roles see the list, or an empty state if no keys exist.

Use the key

Send the key in the X-API-Key header:
API keys are available on every plan. See Authentication for details on scopes and errors.
