What are Seats?

UptimeIO uses a seat-based model to determine how many people can receive notifications. There are two types of seats:

Team Seats

Team members with full dashboard access

Notification Seats

Notification recipients without dashboard access

Team Seats

What They Are

Team seats allow you to add additional team members to your organization with full dashboard access.

What Team Members Can Do

Full Access:
  • View all monitors and incidents
  • Create and edit monitors
  • Configure notification profiles
  • Manage integrations
  • Create status pages
  • View analytics and reports
  • Each member can add 1 email + 1 SMS integration

Team seats are not available on Free or Solo Basic plans. Upgrade to Solo Pro or higher to add team members.

Example: Team Plan

Base Plan: Team ($29/month)
Included: 5 team members

Add 3 more team members:
Cost: 3 × $4 = $12/month

Total: $29 + $12 = $41/month
Total team members: 5 + 3 = 8

Notification Seats

What They Are

Notification seats allow you to add additional notification recipients who receive alerts but don’t have dashboard access.

What Notification Seat Holders Can Do

Notifications Only:
  • Receive email notifications
  • Receive SMS notifications
  • Each seat allows 1 email + 1 SMS integration
No Dashboard Access:
  • Cannot log in to dashboard
  • Cannot create or edit monitors
  • Cannot view incidents or metrics
  • Cannot configure settings
Use notification seats for stakeholders who need to be informed but don’t need to manage monitoring.

Example: Solo Pro

Base Plan: Solo Pro ($15/month)
Included: 1 team member + 5 notification seats

Add 3 more notification seats:
Cost: 3 × $2 = $6/month

Total: $15 + $6 = $21/month
Total notification seats: 5 + 3 = 8

How Seats Affect Integration Limits

The number of email and SMS integrations you can create is calculated as:
Max Email/SMS = Owner + Team Seats + Notification Seats

Examples by Plan

Owner: 1
Team Seats: 0
Notification Seats: 0

Max Email: 1
Max SMS: 1
Only the owner can receive email and SMS notifications.

Free Integrations (Unlimited)

These integrations don’t count toward seat limits and are unlimited on all plans:
  • Slack - Team workspace notifications
  • Discord - Community notifications
  • Webhooks - Custom integrations
  • Telegram - Bot notifications
  • Pushover - Mobile push notifications
  • PagerDuty - Incident management

Adding Team Members

Check Available Seats

Go to SettingsTeam to see your current seat usage:
Team Members: 3 / 5 used
Available: 2 seats

Invite Team Member

Click “Invite Team Member” and enter their email address.

They Accept Invitation

They’ll receive an email invitation to join your organization.

They Get Access

Once accepted, they have full dashboard access and can add their own email/SMS integrations.
Team member added successfully!
If you’ve reached your team seat limit, you’ll need to purchase additional seats or upgrade your plan before inviting more members.

Adding Notification Seats

Check Available Seats

Go to SettingsIntegrations to see your seat usage:
Email Integrations: 5 / 7 used
SMS Integrations: 3 / 7 used
Available: 2 seats

Add Integration

Click ”+ Add Integration” and select Email or SMS.

Configure Integration

Enter the email address or phone number and configure event preferences.

Create Integration

Click “Create” to add the integration.
Notification seat consumed, integration active!

Purchasing Add-on Seats

Go to Billing

Navigate to SettingsBilling.

View Current Seats

See your current seat allocation:
Team Seats: 5 included + 2 purchased = 7 total
Notification Seats: 10 included + 3 purchased = 13 total

Purchase Add-ons

Click “Purchase Additional Seats” and select:
  • Number of team seats ($4/month each)
  • Number of notification seats ($2/month each)

Complete Payment

Review the cost and complete payment.
Seats added immediately to your account!

Seat Management Best Practices

  • Management: Notification seats (just need alerts)
  • On-call rotation: Notification seats (alerts only)
Use Slack, Discord, or webhooks for team-wide notifications without consuming seats:
Critical Alerts:
  - SMS: +1234567890 (on-call, uses seat)
  - Slack: #production (entire team, free)
  - Email: [email protected] (uses seat)
This way, the entire team gets Slack notifications, but only critical contacts consume seats.
Monthly review:
  1. Check which integrations are active
  2. Remove departed team members
  3. Update phone numbers/emails
  4. Consolidate duplicate integrations
  5. Consider switching to free integrations where possible
If you’re frequently hitting seat limits:
  • Consider upgrading to a higher plan tier
  • Higher tiers include more base seats
  • Add-on pricing stays the same (4team,4 team, 2 notification)

Seat Preservation During Plan Changes

Upgrading

When you upgrade, purchased add-on seats are preserved:
Current: Solo Pro + 3 notification seats
Upgrade to: Team

Result:
- Team base: 5 team + 10 notification seats
- Preserved add-ons: +3 notification seats
- Total: 5 team + 13 notification seats

Downgrading

When you downgrade, purchased add-ons are preserved but may exceed new base limits:
Current: Team + 5 team seats + 10 notification seats
Downgrade to: Solo Pro

Result:
- Solo Pro base: 1 team + 5 notification seats
- Preserved add-ons: +5 team + 10 notification seats
- Total: 6 team + 15 notification seats
You keep your purchased add-ons even if they exceed the new plan’s base limits. You’re only charged for the add-ons, not penalized.

Removing Seats

Removing Team Members

Go to Team Settings

Navigate to SettingsTeam.

Remove Member

Click the “Remove” button next to the team member.

Confirm Removal

Confirm the removal. Their access is revoked immediately.
Team seat freed up for reuse.

Removing Integrations

Go to Integrations

Navigate to SettingsIntegrations.

Delete Integration

Click the “Delete” button next to the integration.

Confirm Deletion

Confirm the deletion. The integration is removed immediately.
Notification seat freed up for reuse.
Removing team members or integrations frees up seats for reuse, but doesn’t reduce your bill until you cancel the add-on subscription.
