# Status Page Monitors

> Choose which monitors appear on a status page, rename them, group them and set their order

The **Monitors** tab controls what visitors see. You can show any monitor in your project, rename it for customers, put it in a named group, hide it, and reorder the list.

## Add monitors

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Monitors tab">
    Click **Status Pages** in the sidebar, open a page, and select the **Monitors** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add monitors">
    Click **Add Your First Monitor** (or **Manage Monitors** once the page has monitors). Search the **Available Monitors** list and add the monitors you want.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Remove a monitor">
    Click the remove icon next to a monitor. This only removes it from the status page. The monitor keeps running.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Public name, group, visibility and order

Each row in the list has controls.

| Control | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Drag to reorder** | Sets the order visitors see. The change saves automatically. |
| **Edit** | Opens the **Public name** and **Group (optional)** fields. |
| **Visible on page** | Hides a monitor from visitors without removing it. Hidden monitors show a **Hidden** label in the dashboard. |
| **Remove** | Takes the monitor off the page. |

| Field | Limit | Behavior |
| - | - | - |
| **Public name** | 255 characters | Shown to visitors instead of the monitor name. Leave it empty to show the monitor name. |
| **Group** | 100 characters | Monitors with the same group are listed together under a heading. Existing group names appear as suggestions. |

<Note>
  Groups on a status page are only a display feature. They do not change how the monitors run or alert.
</Note>

## Example

You run `https://acme.com`, `https://api.acme.com/health` and `https://app.acme.com`. To present them clearly:

| Monitor | Public name | Group |
| - | - | - |
| `acme-web-prod` | Website | Core services |
| `acme-api-health` | API | Core services |
| `acme-app-login` | Dashboard | Customer apps |

Visitors see two headings, **Core services** and **Customer apps**, without your internal monitor names.
