# Plans & Billing

> What each UptimeIO plan includes, what it costs, and what happens when you change plans

UptimeIO has three plans: **Free**, **Pro** and **Scale**. The main difference is how many monitors you can run. Check intervals, data retention and status page limits step up with the paid plans.

Included on every plan:

* All monitor types: HTTP, keyword, ping, port (TCP), DNS and heartbeat
* SSL certificate and domain expiry monitoring
* Slow response alerts
* Notifications by email, Slack, webhooks, Telegram and Pushover
* Two-factor authentication
* API access with API keys
* Status page branding, password protection, analytics, announcements and RSS/Atom feeds

<Info>
  The 100 team member and 100 project limits on paid plans are fair-use limits that apply equally to every plan. If you reach one, the API returns `FAIR_USE_LIMIT_REACHED`; contact support to have it raised. There is no per-seat charge.

### Probe locations

Checks run from multiple [probe locations](/monitors/probe-locations). On Pro and Scale you can choose which locations run regular checks for each monitor (at least one). On Free, UptimeIO chooses automatically. Incidents are opened only after several locations confirm a failure, so a problem at a single location does not page you.

## Monitor limits

Your monitor limit applies to all monitors that exist in your organization, **including paused ones**. To create more monitors once you reach the limit, delete monitors or upgrade. Resuming a paused monitor is checked against the number of active monitors.

## Upgrading

When you upgrade, the new limits apply straight away and all your monitors keep running with their data intact.

## Downgrading

You can downgrade at any time. Before you confirm, the dashboard shows a preview of what will change. When you downgrade:

* If you have more active monitors than the new plan allows, your **oldest** monitors keep running and the **newest** ones above the limit are paused. The preview lists exactly which monitors will be paused.
* Monitors with a check interval shorter than the new plan's minimum are moved to that minimum.
* Any unused value from your current billing period is shown in the preview as a credit toward future renewals.

<Warning>
  Data older than the new plan's retention period is removed. Free keeps 90 days of check history; Pro and Scale keep 365 days.
</Warning>

## FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Can I change plans at any time?">
    Yes. Upgrades apply immediately. Downgrades show you a preview before you confirm.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do paused monitors count toward my limit?">
    Yes, for creating new monitors. A paused monitor still exists, so it counts toward your plan's monitor limit. Delete monitors you no longer need to free up room.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I check more often than every minute?">
    No. The shortest check interval is 1 minute on Pro and Scale, and 5 minutes on Free.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What happens if a payment fails?">
    Your service continues normally for a 7-day grace period while the payment is retried and you are notified. If the payment is not recovered in that time, the organization moves to the Free plan.
